Workbench – 3D Miniature Sculpting in Progress | Northern Crusades Miniatures
The Workbench – Behind the Scenes of Medieval Miniature Sculpting
Welcome to the Workbench — the place where new models are born. This is a running log of sculpts, works in progress, and near-complete models from across the Northern Crusades Miniatures range, updated regularly as new pieces move toward release.
Here you get an unfiltered look at the creative process behind one of the most extensive ranges of historical 3D printable STL miniatures available today. From the first rough poses of a mounted Teutonic Knight to the final detail pass on a multi-figure battle diorama, the Workbench documents it all — raw, real, and in motion.
The models you’ll find here cover the full breadth of the collection: armored crusader knights, Kievan Rus warriors, Viking infantry, Mongol cavalry, medieval siege equipment, ships, wagons, castle terrain, and civilian camp scenes — all designed for 28mm and 32mm scale and optimised for resin 3D printing. Many pieces shown here are exclusive early previews for Tribe members before wider release.
Bookmark this page and check back often — new models are added every week.
Here I will do some updates of some (Not All) of the different projects which I am working on and which are close to be released, either directly to the shop at MMF (MyMiniFactory) or to be released to the Tribe-members. Hope you will enjoy and visit from time to time.

Livonian Knight – or Swerd Brethern Knight in combat with his war flail… Model in progress of a Livonian Knight (Swerd Brethern) during the last stand at the battle of Saule. The autumn sun hung low over the marshy lands of Samogitia, its pale light glinting off the helms of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. Master Volkwin rode at the front, his banner of a red cross snapping in the wind. The order had marched deep into enemy territory, intent on punishing the pagan Samogitians for their raids. The campaign had gone well at first — villages burned, cattle taken, hostages bound in ropes. Yet now, as September 22 dawned, the return march home had turned into something far more perilous.
The local guides had warned them: “The land swallows armies whole. The marsh and forest hide more than birds and deer.” Volkwin had dismissed the words. His knights, encased in mail, mounted on destriers, had never known defeat in the field. you can read the full story and buy/download the figure here

The crossbow was a game-changer on medieval battlefields. Used across Europe from the 11th century onwards, it required less training than a longbow. This made it ideal for militias and city levies. Despite its slow rate of fire, its power was devastating. A well-made crossbow could pierce chainmail and even some plate armor. It was widely adopted by the French, Italians, and German mercenaries. By the 12th century, Genoese crossbowmen were feared across Europe. The weapon’s mechanical design allowed it to be drawn and held ready longer than a bow.Crank and lever systems like the windlass improved loading power.
In many ways, the crossbow was the medieval equivalent of a sniper rifle.

Medieval Warrior Bishop in a powerful pose and in heavy armour, on his head a great helmet with the Mitre, a clear sign of his high status. Just released for sale here
Medieval warrior bishops were both spiritual leaders and military commanders. They wielded the crosier in church and the sword on the battlefield. Figures like Hermann von Tartu led crusades in the name of Christendom. Often appointed in borderlands, they spread faith through force and diplomacy. Their castles served as both episcopal seats and military strongholds. Balancing piety with power, they blessed troops before leading charges.
They built churches, founded towns, and ruled like feudal lords. Combining clerical authority with martial prowess, they shaped frontier politics.
Feared by enemies and revered by allies, they embodied church militant. In them, the mitre and the mail coexisted—icons of faith and fire.
